Course info:
This course is for people who have done a beginners course in ceramics before, i.e. who have some experience in working with clay. It is designed to improve beginners' skills, such as more confident handling of clay and tools and to create larger ceramics to own designs. Building techniques taught will be coiling, moulding, slabbing and if desired throwing on wheel. Decorating techniques taught will be imprinting with oxides, glass decoration, brush on glazes and pouring glazes. In the first term Xmas decorations can be made combining ceramics with glass. Individual tuition will be given. Different types of clay will be used as well as a variety of coloured slips We will look at basic kiln firings and temperature ranges for different glazes.
